Workshop 1: Music and Dance with Samoan Sasa and Yoga for children using storytelling, song, and music
In the first part of this workshop, Nila will teach the basics of Samoan Sasa so you can use this unique form of storytelling through music, song, and dance with children. Nila teaches Samoan at St Bernard’s College and loves getting her students moving, learning and having fun to the beats of the sasa drum.
In the second part of the workshop, Jeanne will creatively weave story and song into the ancient art of yoga. The physical yoga poses develop strength, balance and flexibility. The yoga teachings include principles of compassion for self and others, discipline and self-study. Age-appropriate story and song keep the children engaged, and most of all make it fun! Come play and leave with some great ideas on how you can bring yoga and mindfulness into your classroom.
