Her teaching manuals in the areas of dance, drama and storytelling are regularly used for teacher training. As a writer, Tanya Batt specializes in the creation of picture books, folk tale collections and audio recordings for the young and young at heart. Her stories have both a magical and quirky quality.
“Tanya Batt is a spellbinder. In all my years of telling and listening to stories I have never heard anyone who can match her. Only a few story tellers can send shivers of joy up a child’s spine. Tanya Batt is the best of those who can.”

Nga rakau me nga kohatu “Sticks and Stones” – using sounds in the environment to develop music skills with the youngest child up to 8 year olds
Caroline Zeeman
The Fable of Aunty Mabel. We will use a poem about Aunty Mabel who is a little bit crazy. She likes fixing things in her house, but everything turns into a disaster. There is a song with simple chords for ukulele/guitar, an easy recorder/xylophone part and a “construction-based” ostinato for the children (dig, dig, dig, bang, bang, bang, etc) which can also be played by the children on percussion instruments.
Janet Channon
Making Music Without Mayhem Does playing instruments with 3-5 year olds gives you the shivers? Do you grit your teeth, and leap in, with Panadol at the ready? This workshop will give you successful ways to incorporate instruments. . We will stamp, jump, sing and incorporate our senses before moving on to instruments and also share a repertoire of songs to establish music elements.
Celia Stewart
Musical Storytelling Music skills and understandings can all be learned and enhanced through story telling. In this workshop you will gain lots of great ideas about how you can integrate music and storytelling effectively in early childhood and junior classes. As well as incorporating sound effects into favourite stories, we will explore ways the children can create their own musical stories.
