MUSIC AND MOVEMENT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

In association with the University of Waikato, Orff New Zealand Aotearoa (ONZA) is offering a six-day, Level One workshop in Orff Schulwerk at the University of Waikato campus. The summer school will be led by Orff educators Christoph Maubach (University of Waikato), Renee Morin (recently returned from study at the Orff Institute, Salzburg) and Millie Locke (Classroom practitioner, Henderson Valley Primary School).

The workshop constitutes a module contributing to a postgraduate paper at the University: Orff Music Education: Theory and Practice I.  It can also contribute to a Level 3, undergraduate paper  (Directed Study) on the application of Orff practices to young people’s learning in and through music.  Enquiries re enrolling in the workshop as part of either of these papers need to be directed to Professor Terry Locke, School of Education, PB 3105, Hamilton (t.locke@waikato.ac.nz). Your course fee covers the cost of this workshop.

The workshop may be taken as a stand-alone Level 1 workshop, which, upon successful completion, entitles participants to certification in Level 1 Orff Schulwerk. This workshop has been designed to compare with levels of Orff Schulwerk training offered in other parts of the world.

NEWZATS Conference 21-23 July

NEWZATS (NZ Association of Teachers of Singing) Professional Development Conference for 2011.

The conference is from 21-23 July, during the school holiday, and the venue is Central Baptist Church, Wellington.

We are launching into a large undertaking this year and inviting two speakers from UK, Gillyanne Kayes and her husband Jeremy Fisher, well-known for their training work through their company Vocal Process ( www.vocalprocess.co.uk for plenty of information) They are at the cutting edge of voice teaching with special reference to multi-genre voicing and voice function. They work with singers, actors, music theatre singers, teachers, and voice users in many professions.

At the NEWZATS conference they will present one day especially focused on the developing voice through childhood and adolescence, and on a second day they will concentrate on the voice in different genres – an area where many teachers find difficulty as they coach students in shows, competitions, choirs etc, shifting between many styles of singing. The third day will focus on specific voice issues.
